    Brake problem

    Hey guys,

Just need some advice. About 10,000km ago i changed both brake pads and rotors to brand new bendex ones. Anyway these brakes began to squeak a lot about 4-5,000km ago. Its sort of an on and off issue. Basically when i reverse my car out in the morning if i brake hard they squeal worse than anything. But once ive been driving for about 2-3kms the problem goes away and just occasionally maybe when coming to a stop a slight squel.

So I've sort of had enough of the morning braking and wanted to know is there some sort of solution to actually fix the problem? I've considered new pads or rotors but then again I dont want to spend much money again however i do ask for recommended brands and prices etc.

However if anyone here knows any magic tricks or cheap solutions to get rid of the problem ie:sanding down the rotors ive heard before.. or anything else please let me know (besides turning the music up ).

    Cheers

Probably the brake pads aren't suitable for your rotors, driving style or environment. But you can try first removing brake pads clean everything and put back while you can apply anti-squeal to back of the pads and caliper grease to slides and everywhere where is metal to metal contact, take care not to put grease onto friction material. Also you can bevel the edges of the pad’s friction material.

I also suggest you put a chamfer on the pads too mate, a lot of makes now coming chamfered, check if yours has.

    bevel edges = chamfer

What the other 2 mechs said (3 out of 3 agree).

Which Bendix pads did you fit? Which rotors?

If they are really hard pads (metal kings or ultimates) then they will often squeak until they get some heat in them.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of Bendix these days but there are worse out there too.

Try blasting the brake rotors, calipers & pads with a high pressure hose. Even mix up a batch of suds (dish washing liquid, laundry powder, sugar soap all work OK and give it a good clean with a stiff bristled brush.

If you have the pads out to grease (copper kote is best) the slides & sections where the pad touches the caliper then give the friction material a rough up on the concrete. Chamfer the leading & trailing edges is good & also cutting 2 grooves perpendicular to the direction of rotation (3x 18tpi hacksaw blades, all in the one hacksaw frame are about the right width) - basically divide the friction area into thirds.
