RNS510 - Low GPS Signal - Need help!!

I have informed them already, their excuse was that being an aftermarket antenna it receives less signal strength then the genuine one. The genuine one can be placed above the glovebox compartment. I made sure they get the idea

Factory installed ones have the aerial placed on the roof, centre atop the rear window. Hence their reference to the "genuine" one and the better signal reception. The loom is the critical piece to mount it on the roof and is installed during manufacture. I've not heard on anyone mounting a roof aerial after market due to the difficulty involved.

After market (even "genuine") ones mounted in the dash thus have poorer reception.

I have no trouble with the GPS Aerial in the dash, no more than a Navman or Mio gps i always get at least 5/6 satellites and you only need 4 to get a fix, Now is there such a thing as a genuine in the dash GPS aerial,
There are plenty of members here that have the under dash ones and their RNS510 work flawlessly

Hi Guys, I have got the same problem and am hoping you guys can help me.
I have a VW passat MY08 and have recently bought RNS 510 MDF3 Version C.
Here are the item details:
Part number: 1TO 035 680 C
HW: H11
SW:2760

I installed it myseld yesterday and it placed the GPS antenna right above the cavity where the GPS unit sits.
At first the GPS was slow and was running behind in location but then after about 5 minutes it started working fine.
But today morning, it did not pick any signal and was only getting 1 satellite out of 9. I tried for over 30 mins with no luck.
Can you please advise what the problem could be?

I'm having the same problem (reported in another thread). Have tried two different antennas, two different RNS 510's and the antenna is currently mounted on TOP of the dashboard where it meets the windscreen. Only common factor is firmware 2760 (was running 2680).

i was running 2760 till a few weeks ago ,then i upgraded to 38xx ,but mine has always worked flawlessly there must be more to your problem ?

OK I now know that this is definitely antenna related.

1. Changed antenna for THIRD time.
2. Routed cable over glove box (there's a small panel that pops off on end of dashboard).
3. Placed antenna on top of dash (I'll try and hide it when I'm happy that the problem is resolved).
4. Now getting 8/10 satellites.

Hi All,

After installing my RNS510 (from the lithuanian seller) it was working great, then 2 days ago i put in an address and took a different route to begin with and then all of a sudden no GPS signal.

I all connection adn they are fine.

the antenna is mounted in the middle of the dash where the air vents are.

Any ideas?

where did you purchase your antenna from? Is it genuine? Despite the connections looking 'fine' I'd still suggest a failed antenna.

Do all other aspects/functions of the RNS operate ok?
