    MAG Code Socket....

Does anyone know what the MAG Code socket is on a Kombi Beach, the manual makes reference to it being some kind of power socket but the VW dealer here didn't know what it was for and neither did the 12v shop who supply a load of in vehicle equipment. I have searched the net and only seem to come up with articles mentioning it as part of the vehicle spec but none making mention of how it can be used. FYI it's on the right hand side rear of the drivers seat in the Beach.

    Cheers

MagCode is a 12V accessory socket that is "activated" via the alignment of magnets in the plug. Hence it is not possible to short without the mating plug. They come in several ratings.

You can buy them via any Hella outlet. I purchased mine through a truck spares supplier in Newcastle as it worked out cheaper than buying direct from Germany.

The local VW dealer gave me the usual blank response (endearing in children and puppies - not so from "technical support") when asked about the port.

    Refer to site below.

    http://www.magcode.de/english/produkte.html

I have installed these throughout my Beach - internally and externally.

The only downside is the HUGE hole required to secure the fitting, and the right angle orientation of the fly lead plug.

    Cheers, MM

    Hi MM,

You don't happen to know the name of the supplier in Newcastle do you, I have called 10 Hella dealers in Perth both Truck and Mining and so far no one knows what I'm on about. May have to try mail order from there if I draw a total blank this end!

    Cheers

    Mag Plugs

those plugs are common in europe, rather than a cigarette type plug, so kiddies don;t stick their fingers in, i'm going to have it replaced with a cigarette type plug, cause it is eaisier to get stuff with those type fittings rather than the MAG plug.

The link below should take you to the hella catalogue it has the part numbers and wiring diagrams. They work great I converted my engel plug to run via an Anderson plug connection and the magcode to work in the Multivan and my other cars, I bought the lockable powerclip plus 12V

    Hi,

Today I picked up the MAG Clip Plus (I think that's the official name) from my Hella dealer in Perth and the plug needs no soldering as the wires are screwed in place. I have a voltage regulator from Waeco that had a 12v cigar lighter plug on so I cut that off and fitted the new MAG Code - 5 minute job and works a treat plus great fit onto the socket behind the seat. I think I am right in saying that the MAGCODE socket is higher rated than the standard 12v socket.

Anyway well worth chasing one up if you are a Beach owner just from the convenience of having a 12v outlet on the floor behind the drivers seat.
